Sun Savior

Some of the Plains Indians believed that a solar eclipse was caused by a sky demon devouring the sun.

The bravest warrior would go out alone to face the fearsome demon and save his people and his world. He would shoot a fire arrow at the demon to drive off the demon and rekindle the sun.

It is humbling to contemplate the courage required for one person to go out alone and do battle with supernatural forces.
