John Soderberg fell in love with the art of sculpture in Rome at age five. After leaving Afghanistan his family spent time in Rome exploring museums, galleries and churches.

Standing in front of Michelangelo's Moses with his mother, John was moved for the first time by the thought that one man, only five feet two inches tall and one hundred forty pounds, could emotionally touch so many people over the centuries by transforming a cold hard material, a rotten Greek column, into living art.

John's mother held him up and he touched Moses' foot. At that moment he became a sculptor.
